Palazzo Poli
A sustainable regeneration project
The intervention aims to redevelop the access spaces and exhibition routes of the palace, home to the Central Institute for Graphic Arts, through the application of the GBC Historic Building protocol.
Palazzo Poli is the historic building that serves as the structural backdrop for the Trevi Fountain.

The plan integrates advanced technological solutions, such as the use of laser scanners for surveys and the installation of emotional and interactive lighting systems designed to narrate the history of the site. Particular attention is given to energy efficiency through the integration of photovoltaic panels, natural ventilation systems, and the use of low environmental impact materials. The ultimate objective is to combine the preservation of the property’s historical value with functional innovation, improving accessibility and bioclimatic comfort for visitors.

For the stairwell, a ventilation system has been designed to exploit the stack effect naturally generated by the staircase shaft and the openings at its base. The installation of a perforated metal ventilation duct inside the elevator’s supporting pillar is also planned.

The project includes improved accessibility for people with disabilities to the ground floor and second-floor spaces through the repositioning of thresholds at the entrances to the rooms. On the third floor, a movable wooden platform with a light-colored gres finish and an R11 anti-slip surface will be installed.
The old radiators will be replaced with radiant panels integrated beneath the plaster within the existing niches, operating at low temperature to keep the spaces dry and improve winter thermal comfort.
A new lighting system is planned, based on the creation of dynamic scenarios and the use of LED strips and high-efficiency spotlights to reduce energy consumption and rebalance the lighting conditions within the historic spaces.
The intervention also includes the installation of thermal and cooling energy meters, insulation of the pitched roof, replacement of the window frames, and the use of a specific device to address rising damp.

For the internal courtyard, a tripartite tensile canopy system has been proposed, employing materials and technologies derived from nautical sailmaking. This system will feature opaque movable sections with both mechanical and manual opening mechanisms to regulate solar gain and the use of the space.
The project includes the regeneration of the roof skylight through the installation of new openings and the integration of photovoltaic cells for electricity generation.
